Truth and Divine Love (Swami B.A. Sridhar Maharaj)

The lecture from Prema Satsang with Swami B.A. Sridhar Maharaj in Nimaihuset 29th November.

"The Absolute Truth is equated with love."

"The best means to know what the Truth is, is to serve God through the medium of Divine Love."

"Conditional love requires that you do something for me, then I will do something for you. This we can observe everywhere, in everyday life of most people. But there exists also something which is called unconditional love. This unconditional love is like that: I love you as you are, and I'm not demanding anything from you. I make you the centre, and I will be orbiting around you. Whether you love me or not, I will love you anyway. Meaning, I'm not setting any condition for our relationship to exist. [---] Only in spiritual life this kind of unconditional love is possible. If you are on the material plane, meaning, trying to exploit the other, then you can not taste the spiritual love. Because spiritual means giving to the other – the other is in the centre – not demanding anything."

"We have nothing to do with religion. If you think I'm a religious person, I will be dissatisfied. Because I'm not interested in religion. At all. Religion means ritual. Rituals are means for organizing the life on the material platform. Bhakti* is not about religion. Bhakti is about spirituality. And spirituality means complete change of the perspective."

Bhakta Mandus Starring in TV movie!

Nimaihuset's bhakta Mandus makes it to the stars in every home in Sweden this Christmas, playing the drummer in a TV movie in 3 parts about a young rock band! Trailer below – Mandus in the back to the right, in long hair and cap...

Bhakta Mandus is also a great skateboarder – this is how he found us, on the way to the skateboard park nearby, and last summer he made the official trailer to the coming movie (maybe) about Nimiahuset's tent rental business (watch it here).

Fact is that he whole TV-band has been in Nimaihuset, getting stuffed full with prasadam by Yours Truly. Moreover, Ebbot in the trailer above (playing the rock journalist), who is normally the singer of The Soundtrack of Our Lives (recognized as one of the best bands of all times not only by Yours Truly but also by Oasis and Led Zeppelin and others), has also been in Nimaihuset on a Saturday Feast with a couple of other members of The Soundtrack of Our Lives, playing and singing Hare Krishna with us and our guests. And all the members of The Soundtrack of Our Lives are regulars in Restaurant Sattva, the prasadam distribution HQ run by Nimiahuset's Mahahari Prabhu. So this year's Christmas TV-movie is an all Nimaihuset family business!

Srila Bhaktisiddhanta's Disappearance Day

Today is the Disappearance Day of Bhagavan Sri Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati Thakura, the great-grand-father of the disciples of Srila B.A. Paramadvaiti Maharaj, our Spiritual Master. The blog observes this day in a very small and simple manner, due to lack of time because of service to the Temple/Guru/Krishna. This would possibly be justified by Himself, who says: "Meeting the object of service is possible only through service and in no other way", and in so many other quotes and actions have shown us that service (to Krishna) is above law.

Some blog posts by and about Him:

The temporary temple cats (1)

All the outdoor-cats on Nimaihuset's block have now been in the temple and taken a tour – four all in all. The last one was runaway kitten Pink Floyd – very small, beautiful, self-aware and social – who stayed in the basement for half a day before we found the owners.

Runaway kitten Pink Floyd
Add to that temple-devotees Prema Dhama's and Siddhanta's Giridhari and Gopal (that's a cat, folks – vegetarian, among other amazing things), and Felix (story here)... That's a lot of cats.

Simultaneously One and Different (Srila B.A. Paramadvaiti Maharaj from Mayapur 2 days ago)

Gurumaharaj in morning lecture from the banks of the Ganges in Mayapur Dham 29 november 2014, on Truth and devotional service.

"Acintya bedha-abheda [simultaneous oneness and difference] is the underlying principle of life. It is the one and difference. It is the you – your body and your consciousness – and what is beyond that. Because your are not this body – we hear that a thousand times. But it's not only that you are not this body; in addition to that, you are also something." (1:51)

"The spirit soul is your actual beauty. It's your true beauty." (2:52)

"Acintya bedha-abheda really means that you have a part and parcel of Divinity in yourself, which is so powerful and so beautiful that words can not describe it even. [---] Krishna is the most beautiful, what He makes is also the most beautiful, and you are one of those. You are simultaneously that eternal spark, but you are also someone in this world, in the relative world." (3:35)

"This world was designed to bring you home, back to Godhead. (8:17)

"If you want to see the Truth, if you want to see the Beauty, then understand that you are meant to be a part of the Divine Plan. And that's so easy. I mean, all you have to do is grab your japa and go: Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare / Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare – Oh my Lord, please let me be an instrument of Your love. [---] All you have to do is say yes to Krishna, yes my Lord, yes yes yes yes yes forever." (8:40)

You know Krsna, you know everything (Srila Prabhupada)

Lecture by Srila A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada
given in Seattle, October 4, 1968

*

You are a scientist? All right, it doesn't matter. By your scientific research work you find out the Supreme, then it is your perfection. You are businessman? Oh. With your money just find out the Supreme. You are a lover? Just find out the supreme lover. You are after taste, aesthetic sense, beauty? If you find out the Supreme, your searching after beauty will be satisfied.

*

So we are interested in capturing the original person. (chuckles) We are not interested with any subordinate. Govindam adi-purusam [Govinda the Original Person]. But if one can capture the original person, then he captures everyone. Just like the same example. In the Vedas it is said, in the Upanisad: yasmin vijnate sarvam evam vijnatam bhavanti. ["Try to find the one by knowing whom everything is known"]. If you can understand the Supreme Personality of Godhead or the Absolute Truth, then you understand everything. There is no need of understanding separately. Yasmin vijnate sarvam etam vijnatam bhavanti. Similarly, in the Bhagavad-gita also it is said,

yam labdhva caparam labham
manyate nadhikam tatah
yasmin sthito na duhkhena
gurunapi vicalyate
["Upon gaining this he thinks there is no greater gain. Being situated in such a position, one is never shaken, even in the midst of greatest difficulty"]

Vasudeva dropped paint

The temple entrance with the new artwork
On his way in to Nimaihuset to meet Brahma-Samhita for a joint art session, Vasudeva dropped a big tin of white paint just outside the entrance. With a mix of devotional mind and artistic skills the two soon transformed the goof into a new entrance artwork: a crown with a mandala in the middle, according to Brahma denoting that Nimai is the king of Gothenburg.

The clear lakes of autumn in the saintly land of Vraja (3)

“Thus the Vrndavana forest was filled with transparent autumnal waters and cooled by breezes perfumed with the fragrance of lotus flowers growing in the clear lakes.

Visvanatha Cakravarti Thakura: The wind became fragrant and cool by passing over the the lotus filled lakes. Krsna, along with His cows and cowherd boys, entered the forest permeated by this sweetly scented breeze. The word vayuna (wind) is singular instead of plural to indicate a very gentle breeze.”

— Srila Visvanatha Cakravarti Thakura, Sarartha Darsini (Srimad Bhagavatam, Tenth Canto Commentaries), chapter 21, text 1.

*

So the Vrndavana forest is filled with transparent autumnal lakes where fragrant lotus flowers grow, and when the very gentle wind passes over these lotus filled lakes, it catches the fragrance of the flowers and the cool of the water, and the forest becomes permeated by this sweetly scented breeze...

Balaram plows the earth – Preparing ground to receive Bhakti (By Vasudeva Das)

Balarama ploughing by the Yamuna

Dandavats to all Vaishanvas who reads this. I offer my prayers that I will not cloud this article too much with my own mind and flawed translations when referring to certain quotes. If any fault is found, please reveal them to me so i can correct them. I offer this as an offering to my Gurudeva Swami BA Paramadvaiti Maharaj on His Vyasapuja.

If someone reads this who is not so aquainted with the vaishnava terminology I think google actually can answer any word that seems foreign.

Some devotees of Krishna might wonder why some other devotees of Krishna are talking so much about ecology or vegetarianism and even apparently turn to the field of politics, like peace and environmental meetings etc, in such questions. Why not just stay in the nectar of lila-katha, japa or tattva-katha? Have they gone astray?

Vem är Mahatma (stor personlighet)?

Svenska:
Bhakti yogi mästaren Srila Vishvanath Chakravarti Thakur (1626 –1708) ger oss insikt i denna hyllade text:

How important are we? (Srila B.A. Paramadvaiti Maharaj)

Evening class by Gurumaharaj in Vrindavan, 22nd February 2007.

"How important are we? That is actually only answerable in connection with the cause of our existence. The cause, supposively, is an indicator to the purpose. And when the purpose is fulfilled, and the cause is thus satisfied, we can thus define what was the value." (0.26)

"What is the value of us, by ourselves? What is the value of our activities, for ourselves? Where does the concept of value arise?" (3.51)

"Who are you?, to begin with, so that we can study this topic. All of this leads us to the greatest of all needs: self realization. Or, we don't do anything about it: we spend our time buying hats, pants, shirts, jewellery, entertaining ourselves in the diverse items of this world, but we don't spend any time on self realization. Thus our life is flowing by, fast, and we have not yet questioned ourselves the most essential of all questions: Who am I, and what is making my existence so valuable?" (4.46)

"You do have definitely an independent movement. And by that independent movement you came to sit here tonight to listen to me talk." (10.03)

"There's nothing more beautiful, nor more auspicious, than the Truth. The Truth is auspicious and beautiful. And through cit, through consciousness, through awareness, you can define Where is my path? Where is my path towards the Truth which is beautiful and auspicious?" (11.15)

Make me a channel of Your peace (Sinead O'Connor)

Oh my Lord please let me be an Instrument of Your Love! This is a prayer sung by our beloved Gurumaharaj and his disciples the world over. Whilst meditating on this recently I was reminded of a lovely prayer attributed to thirteenth century monk Saint Francis of Assisi. Known as Make me a channel of Your peace, or more simply as the Saint Francis Prayer. It has helped me expand on and gain insight into what it means to be an Instrument of Divine will. Sung beautifully here by Sinead O'Connor this prayer was made part of the morning devotions by Mother Teresa in her world mission. It has been widely adopted by popes, mystics, swamis, world leaders, celebrities and lay folk alike. While not necessarily claiming a place in Nimaihuset's Hare Krishna top 10 this song certainly deserves a place in the heart. Hope you enjoy...

Duality in the realm of Divine perfection (Srila B.A. Paramadvaiti Maharaj)

Gurumaharaj in his inimitable way interweaving high spiritual philosophy with down-to-earth, world-and-time-conscious activism. And as always ending talking about love, and love in action, which is service, which is his main teaching.

Pictures and some captions of Peru 2014, by Caitanya das

As I am not a great scribe nor storyteller this post will be in pictures and captions, and the captions will contain my story. I may append text to the captions of things that are not visible in the pictures. Anyway, lets get started.

Many buildings in central Lima that are important (like police houses, government) are built in Roman style. Similar buildings can be found in italian towns. I went to visit the large temple in Lima which also contained a Vrinda restaurant.

Govardhan Celebration

Govardhan Celebration in Nimaihuset saturday 25 October!

This day we remember Krishna's pastime of lifting the Govardhan Hill on one finger, to protect the residents of Vrindavan from the demigod Indra's rage over being neglected in favour of Krishna, the Absolute, and thus showing His devotees the meaning of
the final instruction and conclusion of Bhagavad Gita:

Abandon all varieties of religion and just surrender unto Me.
I shall deliver you from all sinful reactions. Do not fear.

There will be singing of bhajans, lecture, altar ceremony,
and afterwards some nice prasadam will be served

We start at 17

Welcome!

"Times are changing" – Gurumaharaj on food and the decision to go vegan (Vrindavan yesterday)

Srila B.A. Paramadvaiti Maharaj settling the matter with milk products, white sugar, and non-organic food (and pointing at some time-related imbalances).

"You could say, milk from the market is coming from the cow concentration camps. [---] Then comes the next thing, that this milk industry, producing this concentration camp-milk, -butter, -cheese, -yoghurt, – that industry puts chemicals into the cows and produces a milk that is not healthy. In other words, all these milk products, they're the reason why you have this disease and that disease and that disease, and why the hospitals are filled. This is not healthy food. [---] We want the Vrinda Family to go in a vegan lifestyle. [---] We didn't want to make it like an absolute, but at least we wanted to give that example." (3:54f)

Srila Sridhar Maharaj (biography, links, index)

Today is the appearance day of one of the greatest Vaishnavas of recent time and a great favourite in Nimaihuset: Srila Bhakti Rakshak Sridhar Dev-Goswami Maharaj.

The Perfection of Renunciation (Srila B.A. Paramadvaiti Maharaj)

Gurumaharaj speaks about sannyasa – the renounced order of life – and things related, on the appearance day (2012) of his sannyasa-guru Srila B.R. Sridhar Maharaj.

"Enjoyment is a natural propensity. And the only joy and the only happiness, according to the Vaishnava philosophy, will be achieved when someone overcomes his separate interest from Krishna: when somebody makes Krishna's wish his wish, when he makes Krishna's love his goal of life. Srila Sridhar Maharaj is a general amongst the renunciants. He has shown to us that renunciation is a very joyful path. Undoubtedly renunciation is a challenge. It challenges our conditional thinking altogether. But is responds to a higher craving which is also within you. Because real love is abnegation of egotism, entirely. Just like a mother never thinks of her comfort when her child is in danger. Any kind of discomfort becomes to her the most natural and first choice. Because that's what love is all about. So we are very fortunate when we see our love being put into the circle of divine understanding. [---] Krishna's goal, Krishna's service, Krishna's devotees, Krishna's love, everything Krishna." (3:34)

Gurumaharaj in Vrindavan yesterday

Morning lecture from the roof veranda of Vrinda Kunja:
Gurumaharaj connecting Gaudiya Vaishnavism with his work with the indigenous people of South America.
A little internal maybe, but the sound vibration is ecstatic, and worship/service of sound vibration is what it's all about anyway, so...

Congratulations Gurumaharaj!

Today is Vyasa Puja, the appearance day of our Gurudeva Srila Bhakti Aloka Paramadvaiti Maharaj. So we ask You to please receive Nimaihuset's offerings of gratitude.

The meaning of Vyasa Puja

The meaning of Vyasa Puja
(From a Vrinda page, by unknown devotee)

The worship of the spiritual master on the day of his appearance, is called Vyasa Puja. Puja means worship, and Vyasa refers to the powerful incarnation of God who came 5000 years ago to compile the Vedic literature. Srila Vyasadeva could foresee the degraded condition of the people of Kali Yuga and therefore compiled millions of verses of Vedic wisdom, to give the fallen souls of this age a chance to reach the perfection of life.

Welcome!

8000 Drums Sunday 12th October

8000 Drums at Lejontrappan, Sunday 18.00!

On the 12th of October, which is the very very auspicious apperance day of our beloved Gurudeva, we invite you to participate in a global gathering of healing the wounds of our minds and re-establishing the sacred relationship with Mother Earth. Two years ago Gurudeva initiated this to the Vrinda Mission after inspiration from the elders of the tribes from Sierra Nevada Colombia, to gather to a global drum manifesto. It is set on the date of 12 of October which for us is very auspicious, but for the indigenous cultures in Amerika it is considered a day of grief, as it was the day Columbus and the western colonization, slaughter of different worldviews, took off.

We will gather 18.00 at Lejontrappan, the Lion stairs just next to Brunnsparken and make a celebration for Mother Earth and the River of God/Göta älv (Göta is a fornnordic name for God), the holy water which is Radha and Krishna's love extacy combined, and continue to connect to our true selves – eternal spirit sparks of the love divine.

Please join in and bring a drum for this holy celebration!

Mohana visited from Colombia (Pictures)

Last week Nimaihuset was visited by our dear sister Mohana Vamsi Bihari devi dasi from Colombia. As the winner of the sankirtan marathon she gets to go to Vrindavan (India), and on the way she decided to pass Sweden and Gupta Vrindavan Nimaihuset, to see her friend, Nimaihuset's songbird Gandharvika Sundarim dd, and to pick up Madhu Mangal das, who is also going there. We had five wonderful days of her precious company – high, sweet, and fun.

Responsibility – Freedom – Love (Srila B.A. Paramadvaiti Maharaj)

Gurumaharaj in Berlin (April 2014) about freedom. And a particular fruit even higher than that. And the premise for both.

"Freedom is something like a fruit. You have like a very wonderful papaya fruit called Freedom. It's totally ripe and somewhere out there, but you don't know how to get there. How will I get this papaya? How will I deserve to get this Freedom? – Freedom... Libertad... Freiheit... It's a word that makes your chest enlarge. So this big Freedom papaya which is so high up, it has a certain restriction. What is the restriction to freedom? What do we have to accomplish in order to be able to deserve freedom? And is there a fruit even higher than Freedom? The key connection between yourself and Freedom, that is something called Spiritual Realization. It's called Responsibility."

"What's the fruit of responsibility? – Freedom, yes. And after freedom? – Love! You cannot get love if there is no freedom. You cannot get freedom if there is no assuming responsibility."

Individuality (Srila B.A. Paramadvaiti Maharaj)

Is individuality illusion? Does it disappear in the oneness of Brahman? Does spiritual realization exclude individual existence? A well-read and amused (and amusing) Gurumaharaj wielding the sword of divya-jnana – divine knowledgein the jungle of philosophical speculation.
(From the Berlin temple, 9th April 2011)

"Spiritual life is a question of realization."

"You can not love anybody if you don't have distinct individuality. The very word 'love' would have no meaning if there is no eternal individual existence; it would be a fantasy word. You could say, if there is no eternal individuality, then the biggest illusion, the biggest word of the material existence, is called love. And it's the opposite. It's the solution to our material existence and ignorance. Love is the solution. And love is the message of the Vedas, in all its profoundity. Love. Unlimited love. Love, which is available to all."

"We need vedic knowledge. We need the truth. We need the understanding of what the law means, and what's the benefit of following the law. And we need love, which helps to realize all these things."

Selected Posts on Krishna Consciousness (24): Everything is sweet (Srila Sridhar Maharaj)

In this fantastic informal talk on his veranda, Srila Sridhar Maharaj describes how to make your transition from the path of this nether-world to the path to the Gracious World, from the land of bondage to the Land of Freedom, in 3 easy steps. You can start from wherever you are.

1. Stop acting on a personal agenda. Do your duties, your responsibilities, what's "on your table", but don't cash in the fruits from it.

2. Accept your karma as it comes to you, without resistance or trying to enjoy it.

3. Think of Krishna, the Supersoul/Superconsciousness, the Absolute Person (situated in your heart), the Supreme Will behind the Universal Flow, and surrender everything to Him. Chanting the Hare Krishna Maha Mantra is the best method for that. If you want to add power to it, think of its inner meaning as "Please let me be an instrument of Your love".

Then just watch your surroundings change, and follow what unfolds in that flow.

Conscious Art (Srila B.A. Paramadvaiti Maharaj)

Gurumaharaj in the Berlin temple, 15th July 2011, on the importance of conscious art (visual, music, literature, film, etc).

"Raising consciousness is a prime necessity. In whatever way it can be accomplished. Raising consciousness is synonymous with education. Higher values. Higher taste. True commitments. For that purpose I have invited, since the last 25 years, that those who are artists may actively join the forum of conscious art. Conscious art is a revolutionary forum. [---] Conscious art is an awakening call."

Shine Thru Your Eyes (Jalebi Music)

Jalebi Music, disciples of Gurumaharaj, in a Nimaihuset favourite. Ambienty, trip-hoppy, dubby, with a sky-opening superhit-refrain. Gurumaharaj sampled in the refrain: "I'm taking the lotus feet of my Spiritual Masters. Humble obeisances to all of them."

Jalebi Music about the song:
An authentic spiritual master teaches by personal example. They lead their disciples through the maze of material existence. We are inspired by their pure devotion to God. And we can see God shine through their eyes. Humble obeisances to all of them!

Sunday Chat: The Value of Things (Srila B.A. Paramadvaiti Maharaj)

From Argentina September 7, 2014

Dear devotees,

A big hug from Córdoba. Happy to be here with devotees who year after year give their best to continue the mission of Srila Prabhupada.

Miracles every day. It's a miracle, a temple of Krishna in the world of maya. And every devotee is a gem. So here beside miracles and gems I can only say thank you Srila Prabhupada.
